Life and its Outlook

Every so often articles come out on how the self perception or general outlook on value of life for some group is published. The most recent one that got my attention was this one:

NEW YORK: From their relationships to their jobs to their money — even from they time they first roll out of bed — young white Americans are happier with life than their minority counterparts.

According to an extensive survey of 1,280 people ages 13-24 by The Associated Press and MTV, 72 percent of whites say they are happy with life in general, compared with 51 percent of Hispanics and 56 percent of blacks.

“It doesn’t surprise me,” said Martin Carpenter, 21, a black New Jersey resident. “There’s a lot of issues out there for African-American young adults. You can still go to certain places and feel uncomfortable, like you don’t belong there.”

Martin’s feeling about racism, real or perceived, was echoed in the survey: 28 percent of minorities believe race will hurt them in the quest for a better life. Among whites, 20 percent feel their race will help in getting ahead.

Destiny Brown, 17, a black Virginia high school student, said she has friends who were already passed over for work simply because their names sounded different: “I know sometimes your name — people will give you a hard time when you try to get a job.”

How well can we assume color is just that – only a color? Also, I wonder how this applies to other places (South Africa, England, Brazil, etc.). In any case, it seems the “American Way” is an idea that is seeming more as an ideal then something to apply in everyday life. The kicker is you always tend to meet people who made it *big*, and it’s in almost anything. Starting with a semi-truck and ending with a multi million $ logistics company, restaurants, selling/hauling landscaping material, etc. – the options exist.

Instead of trying to do well, we seem to be raising a “get rich or die trying” bunch.

Nepal Communist Party UML now is a bunch of jokers. You know there are ceiratn types of jokers who do not know more than self depreciating to make others laugh. There is a saying in English, “Man makes mistakes but only a fool repeats it.” But even a fool has some limits. When you are there to make only mistakes every time, you are something more than a fool. I don’t know whether there is a superlative of a fool.UML used to be considered the best option for those who could neither endorse Nepali Congress’ full-fledged capitalism nor the parties like Maoist’s orthodox communism. But sadly enough, it has turned to be a bunch of jokers. You might have seen in pictures every time the Hero punches someone, the victim is the joker! But yet the joker never learns from the mistake because he is destined to be punched. A sandbag anyone can punch whether it is Nepali Congress, the ex-king or the Maoists. So sad!
