I decided I need to read more – there’s a wealth of knowledge out there and I need to pick up more of it. A friend of mine in Texas who is pretty well read in the area of pre-modern and modern philosophy books, so I use him as my resource for what to pick up next.

This is the latest book: Eric Hoffer’s The True Believer. A very short, simple read that attempts to explain the types of people and the reasons they become involved in mass movements. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in understanding what drives people to some time do insane, whether they have cited religious, political, social, etc. reasons for their actions. The book dedicates a decent amount of time to describe the state of people when they decide to become a part of mass movements, which is something that has not changed over time, many people today really don’t understand, and I find extremely fascinating.

The book can be picked up used for about $5 from most sources online (half, amazon, etc.) or if you’re at a large university, almost any used book store.
